Center Valley, Pa. - Thirty student-athletes, including the Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Army's Eddie Kang, were named to the 2008 Patriot League Men's Tennis Academic Honor Roll, Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich announced on Monday.

Kang, a senior, won the Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete award in the spring. He was also named the Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship and Leadership Winner for the NCAA Northeast Region, and concluded his career as the all-time leader in victories in singles play at Army. An East Asian Studies major, Kang compiled a 3.321 grade-point average in the spring semester.

Four student-athletes posted a GPA of 4.0 or better, as Army junior Rick Houghton, Lafayette sophomore Matt McGranaghan and Navy freshman Nick Birger and junior Jason Hill were all at the mark. Nine of the Academic Honor Roll selections also made the All-Patriot League squad, including Kang, Hill and Colgate's Martin MacIntyre, the 2008 Patriot League Player of the Year.

Army, Holy Cross and Lafayette tied for a League high with five selections to the Men's Tennis Academic Honor Roll.

To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the spring semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the Patriot League's 16 winter or spring championship sports. The criteria for awarding varsity letters are different at each institution.
